Home Based Religious Education (HBRE)

Religious Education is more than receiving information. It is about forming attitudes and values. It is about a way of life.

This type of learning, which is based on life experiences and forms a basis for behaviour and relationships, is a slow and profound process.

The HBRE Program supports parents in their role as the first educators of their children where they are learning through example, encouragement and commitment.

The HBRE Program has been developed for students attending non Catholic Primary Schools within the Parish of St Andrew’s. It prepares the students to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

HBRE program is a Four Year program running from February to September for students from Grade 3 to Grade 6. The First year is a Pre-Sacrament Class. During this year children become familiar with prayers and Bible stories. Over the next three years, children are prepared for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

The program is home based. The children attend one Workshop each month with a qualified Catechist. In addition, two workbooks and a project are done at home each year. Parents are asked to show their commitment to their children’s Faith Journey by doing the workbooks/projects with their children. All parents are asked to remain at one or two parent’s meetings each year. Parents are given plenty of help during the four year program to enable them to confidently help their children.

Enrolments/Enquiries regarding the program can be made by contacting HBRE Coordinators, Therese Kennedy or Benita Dahanayake on 9741 4144 or by email at werribee@cam.org.au
